Smarter Tools Make a Smarter Pitch

It’s sometimes hard to keep up with all of the news in the biotech industry. We don’t always catch it all.

But we are more than a little chagrined that we missed this news out of the CED Tech Venture Conference Sept. 17 and 18.

Physcient, one of our loan portfolio companies, won the award for top pitch.

I’ve seen these guys pitch a couple of times, and they are good. You understand immediately the importance of what they’re doing – improving surgical tools, which makes surgeons’ cuts more precise. In turn, this improves surgery, decreases pain and decreases healthcare costs. (More in this New York Times piece! )

"The goal is to replace designs that are currently decades or even centuries old,” Hugh Crenshaw, president and CEO of Physcient, said in his pitch.

“And the result is an instrument that is easier to use, faster and vastly safer.”

The Durham company is attracting investor interests, and it’s a two-time NCBiotech loan recipient.

They’ve presented at our VC events in Boston, NewYork and the Research Triangle.

And, we introduced Physcient to at least one of the groups that invested in Physcient’s recent first close of its ongoing financing, our VP of Business and Technology Development, Peter Ginsberg tells me.

Looks like Physcient’s pitch, like its surgical tool, found its target.

How good was the pitch? See it for yourself on YouTube.
