Teresa Squire, Ph.D.

As part of the Science and Technology Development team, Dr. Squire works to strengthen the research infrastructure at North Carolina’s academic and not-for-profit research institutions. Teresa fulfills this mission by supporting the research grant programs sponsored by the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. Many of her responsibilities are on the pre-award side of the grant process and include reviewer recruitment, investigator consultations, draft proposal review, and program outreach. She also manages the Core Laboratory Research Facilities project.
Teresa began her professional career as a high school science teacher in North Carolina. She taught Biology, Advanced Biology, and Physical Science to ninth and tenth grade students before returning to graduate school to pursue a doctoral degree in genetics. Her graduate work examined genes and gene products involved in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism in the hibernating ground squirrel. Wishing to turn her focus toward human health, Teresa did her postdoctoral work at Duke University studying inherited vascular disorders.
Teresa holds a B.A. in biology from Swarthmore College, an M.A. in teaching and curriculum from Michigan State University, and a Ph.D. in genetics from North Carolina State University. She is a member of the North Carolina Regulatory Affairs Forum.
