WUNC Broadcasts Update on NC's Life Science Impact

WUNC, the University of North Carolina Public Radio station, devoted a 12-minute segment of the weekday show “The State of Things” to the state’s life science sector today.

During the show, “State of Things” host Frank Stasio interviewed data reporter Jason deBruyn about data contained in the North Carolina Biotechnology Center’s recently published biennial update, produced by TEConomy. The document is titled "2016 Evidence and Opportunity: Impact of Life Sciences in North Carolina."

Key points about the state’s fast-growing life science foundation include:

  • $86 billion in total economic impact
  • $2.2 billion in state and local government revenues
  • 260,000 jobs
  • 63,000 employees
