Durham’s Heat Biologics is fanning the flames and getting attention.

The clinical-stage company’s promising cancer-fighting technology was featured today on WRAL television, Raleigh’s CBS affiliate, by medical team reporter Allen Mask, M.D.

On Wednesday, June 25, at 3:30 p.m. PST Heat CEO Jeff Wolf will participate in a panel discussion in the North Carolina Pavilion at the BIO International Convention in San Diego.

The panel is titled “Innovative Business/Financing Models to Accelerate Product Development.”

Wolf is one of three panelists who will talk about what worked for their North Carolina biotech companies: being acquired, a licensing deal, and Heat’s successful $25 million IPO last July.

The other panelists are:

  • Steve Butts, president, COO and co-founder of Aerial BioPharma. In January 2013 Aerial sold rights to its clinical-stage narcolepsy drug, ADX-N05, for a potential $397 million to Jazz Pharmaceuticals of Dublin, Ireland.
  • Mike Grey, president and CEO of Lumena Pharmaceuticals and a venture partner with Pappas Ventures. In May 2014, Shire bought former Research Triangle Park-based Lumena for some $260 million. Lumena was founded by Pappas Ventures.

The panel will be moderated by Peter Ginsberg, vice president for Business and Technology Development at NCBiotech, which has invested in 20 emerging biopharma companies through NCBiotech’s loan program during the past fiscal year. Both Heat and Aerial have received loans from NCBiotech.

The North Carolina pavilion, Booth #1727, features a full presentation schedule, featuring talks by many of its sponsors.
