Patheon to Add 488 Jobs in Greenville
Patheon is adding 488 jobs to its Greenville facility, Governor Pat McCrory announced at the company today.
The jobs will be created by the end of 2019 as part of a planned $159 million expansion of the site. 
The expansion will increase and modernize manufacturing capacity, making Greenville the home of Patheon's sterile fill facility. The expansion will also solidify the company's pharmaceutical development services offerings. Patheon is a business unit of DPx Holdings.
"To know that a growing company like DPx Holdings has chosen to expand its Patheon facility in North Carolina is a great sign that we are on the right track in building our state’s economy,” McCrory said. “This company is part of one of the fastest growing industries in the country, and it is great to have them call North Carolina home."
Patheon first located in North Carolina in 2008. The contract manufacturing company bought Banner Pharmacaps in High Point in 2012, then announced a $2.6 billion merger with DSM in 2013. DSM was twice named Pitt County's industry of the year.
Mark Phillips, vice president for statewide operations and executive director for the Eastern Region office of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, assisted state and local economic developers in the process. He said Patheon's decision to put the flagship facility for pharmaceutical development in Greenville was a significant decision for the state.
"Companies like Patheon, previously DSM, put North Carolina and Greenville on the life science industry map," he said. "Contract manufacturing is a critical link in the pharmaceutical development process, and we're proud that this link will continue to happen in Greenville."
The state and Pitt County have committed up to nearly $7 million in incentives to the project once job creation goals are met. As part of the incentives package, Patheon pledged to keep its 1,600 jobs statewide while adding the new jobs in Greenville. Patheon's U.S. headquarters is in Durham.
