Ag Biotech's Best Buy-In Bazaar May 20

Angel, venture and other investors and corporate scouts interested in expanding their ag biotech holdings have a rare chance to rub elbows with opportunity next week.

Nine entrepreneurial companies from North Carolina and three other Southeastern states will take the North Carolina Biotechnology Center stage next Tuesday, May 20, for the Ag Biotech Entrepreneurial Showcase 2014.

Presenters include including crop biotech and animal health firms, three of which loan recipients from NCBiotech:

Other young North Carolina companies giving presentations are Crop Microclimate Management of Apex and Mercury Science of Raleigh.

The event also includes rollouts from Climate Adaptive Genetics of Murfreesboro Tenn., ProteiosBio of Charlottesville, Va., Stony Creek Colors of Nashville, Tenn. and VRM Labs of Easley, S.C., near Greenville.

Registration ends Friday, May 16 for this, the second annual Showcase produced by NCBiotech. The event highlights North Carolina’s leadership in the ag biotech sector. Besides the presentations from the investor-ready entrepreneurs, the day includes panel sessions and two keynote speakers:

Ron Stotish, Ph.D., executive director, president and CEO of  Waltham, Mass.-based AquaBounty Technologies, which is developing advanced-hybrid salmon, trout, and tilapia designed to grow faster than traditional fish.

Neal Carter, president and founder of Okanagan Specialty Fruits, whose flagship project, the non-browning Arctic® apple, is expected to be commercially approved this year.

The Showcase is nearly sold out. It's expected to draw 170 attendees from national investment firms, global ag biotech companies, university research, technology transfer offices and support organizations.

Registration and more information are available on the NCBiotech website.
