Prior to joining the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, Kathleen Kennedy served on the faculty at East Carolina University, where she was the Biotechnology Training Program director.
At the Biotechnology Center, Kennedy oversees education programs, develops biotechnology-related curriculum materials, advises colleges on biotechnology education and tracks biotechnology workforce training needs.
Kennedy received her doctorate in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Master of Science degree in cell biology from the University of Texas at Austin. She also received undergraduate degrees in journalism and English and did post-doctoral research at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Kennedy's research areas included membrane structure, bacteriophage structure and genetics, site-specific recombination and the application of DNA hybridization technology to clinical diagnostics.
