Marjorie Benbow, JD, MBA, MSPH, Director of the Greater Charlotte Office of the North Carolina Biotechnology Center is an executive with extensive experience in biotechnology research, business and technology development.

As the regional director, she is charged with:

  • supporting biotechnology economic development
  • building collaborations among individuals and institutions to further the cluster development of biotechnology
  • addressing needs as they arise in the area of biotechnology
  • serving as the biotechnology resource for the Greater Charlotte Region

Work Background

She brings a unique combination of law, science and business to the Biotechnology Center. Prior to completing her JD and MBA at Wake Forest University, she researched virology and regenerative medicine for a decade. Ms. Benbow worked as a management consultant for five years internationally and formulated public health policy for North Carolina. At UNC Charlotte, she managed its intellectual property and served as the Scientific and Technology Officer for the fourth largest hospital system in North Carolina.

She received her bachelor and master of science degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. In the community, she serves on boards to support science, access to justice, intellectual property, education and ethics. Benbow is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and a registered patent attorney.
